Timothée Chalamet has revealed that Dune: Part Three will take fans into completely new territory.
The 30-year-old star, who returns as Paul Atreides, insisted that the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi saga has a fresh identity all of its own.
He opened up during an IMAX fan Q&A in Los Angeles, explaining that while the first two films feel closely connected, the third instalment breaks away with a striking new tone.
“This is a different movie,” Chalamet said.
“The first two are sort of siblings, and this one is really its own energy. I love that approach.”
Although he was reunited with the cast and crew he has worked alongside for years, the Marty Supreme actor admitted the atmosphere on set felt noticeably different as filming drew the trilogy to its dramatic conclusion.
Director Denis Villeneuve echoed those thoughts, describing the blockbuster as “a very different beast” with a more intense rhythm than its predecessors.
The 58-year-old filmmaker also revealed he unexpectedly fast-tracked the project after originally planning to take a lengthy break following Dune: Part Two.
However, he said vivid images from the story kept waking him during the night, convincing him he had a responsibility to finish the tale while inspiration was at its strongest.
For Chalamet, saying goodbye proved especially emotional.
The Oscar-nominated actor admitted the Dune films have become the most personal chapter of his career, having lived with the role for so many years.
He confessed there was a real sense of nostalgia as production wrapped, adding that completing the trilogy felt like “losing a part of me”.
