Gracie Abrams has admitted she once feared that her “secure and stable” relationship with actor Paul Mescal might actually threaten her music career.

The 26-year-old singer, who has been dating the Hamnet star for around two years, revealed she hit a creative wobble after the release of her 2024 album The Secret of Us

Known for pouring heartbreak and messy emotions into her lyrics, Gracie suddenly found herself wondering what she had left to write about when life got a little too calm.

Speaking to Vogue, she confessed: “I felt talked out. I was worried feeling secure and stable was threatening my drive to write music. It freaked me out.”

But thankfully, longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner helped her shift perspective, encouraging her to dig deeper rather than chase drama for inspiration.

The songstress said she’s learned it’s “okay to mine deeper and refine what you are naturally inclined to do.”

Much of her recent downtime has been spent in London while Mescal filmed Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao and co-starring Jessie Buckley.

She described watching his work as something almost magical, saying it felt like “coming home and reading the greatest book ever.”

Despite the glamour of their careers, Close to You singer says she and Paul have embraced a surprisingly quiet life together, which she cherishes.

“It feels like the opposite of what the last four years have been like,” she added.

The Hit the Wall hitmaker also opened up about her hopes beyond fame, saying she dreams of a future with more consistency, loved ones close by, and eventually starting a family of her own.
