Shakira recently revealed real reason behind her connection to the FIFA World Cup
The Colombian singer-songwriter, who wrote the official song, Waka Waka in 2010, opened up about having fond memories of the song and the World Cup.
While speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Shakira said, “That song took me to the World Cup, the World Cup had an important impact in my life, and they were born — the best thing that has happened to me.”
“That's why I call my kids the Waka kids; I think they were born because of that song,” remarked the Hips Don’t Lie hit-maker.
Recalling 2010 tournament, Shakira, who shares two children with former soccer star Gerard Pique, mentioned that she was pregnant with Sasha at the time.
“All of my fans, they saw me perform, and they're like, 'Shakira's pregnant.' And I was like a month pregnant — I was like two months maximum, but they know me so well,” stated the 49-year-old.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Whenever, Wherever singer talked about her sons’ choices who both “enjoy sports and music” like their parents.
“They both play instruments and sing, and the oldest one, he plays the drums, guitar, the bass, piano,” explained Shakira
Meanwhile, the singer will make a comeback to the World Cup this summer for the first ever halftime show during the final, where she will co-headline with Madonna and BTS.
“Every World Cup is really magical, and I think this one is going to be all about bringing people together in this very sensitive moment in time, socially and politically,” she added.
