Rick Springfield has explained what led him to become a U.S. citizen in 2006, reflecting on personal and legal motivations behind the decision.

Speaking to People, the chart topping singer joked, “Oh, I wanted to be on jury duty. I heard it was so much fun and such a kick that I just, I said, "I gotta do this!'”

Apart from joke, the Australian rocker revealed, “Honestly, it was for reasons like if I die first, my wife will be able to make financial or decisions.”

Moreover, he added, "My friends are here, my family's here. I do have some cousins back in Australia, but, you know, this is where my life is, and I love this place. I love the country. I mean, honestly I wouldn't have done if I didn't love America."

On the workfront, Springfield will next join Sammy Hagar on the Best of All Worlds tour for eight shows in June, as the longtime friends reunite on the road after more than 50 years of knowing each other.
