Olivia Rodrigo recently made it clear that she was disturbed after seeing ICE used her song for their online video prompting illegal immigrants to leave the country.
The Grammy winner slammed the Department of US Homeland Security for using her song for their propaganda video in November without singer’s permission.
While speaking to Dazed magazine, Olivia recalled scrolling on her phone when she saw the video.
“It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged,” explained the 23-year-old.
The comment came after Olivia lashed out at the homeland security and the White House when the video was first posted in November.
Under the post, the singer said in the comment section, “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” after which the audio was removed.
At the time, a DHS spokesperson quoted the song from her album Guts in response, shared with TMZ, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe.”
“We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice,” they stated.
However, in her latest interview with Dazed, Olivia hit out at ICE, saying the work of immigration enforcement is barbaric.
“What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel,” she declared.
The singer-songwriter added, “I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.”
