Why Ariel Winter, Luke Benward quietly called it quits?

Ariel Winter’s love story with longtime boyfriend Luke Benward has reportedly come to a quiet end after nearly six years together.

The former Modern Family star, now 28, is said to have split from actor Luke sometime last year, with insiders insisting there’s “no bad blood” between the pair despite the heartbreak.

According to sources close to the couple, the relationship simply “ran its course” after years together. 

One insider claimed the pair realised they were “better as friends” after building such a close bond both on and off screen.

And while the romance may be over, it seems the affection certainly isn’t.

The source insisted Ariel still thinks Luke is “the best”, adding there is still “tons of love” between them. 

The former couple are also said to remain extremely close and continue to share custody of their beloved dogs.

Fans last saw the pair publicly together in July 2025 at a screening for their thriller Don’t Log Off, a passion project they both produced and starred in after filming it during the COVID pandemic.

At the time, Ariel couldn’t stop gushing over Luke, proudly telling reporters: “I’m a stan for my man!”

The reported split comes as Speed Racer star has also opened up about the possibility of revisiting her role as brainy Alex Dunphy in a potential Modern Family reunion.

Speaking recently, the actress admitted she’d “definitely be open” to returning if producers ever decided to revive the hit comedy.

Ariel also revealed she hopes Alex would return as a more emotionally fulfilled version of herself after years spent chasing academic success.

She previously confessed ending the beloved sitcom in 2020 was “hard”, admitting the cast, including Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland, had become “like a real family”.
