Rock legend Gene Simmons has revealed he never gave his children pocket money “for being alive” and says modern parenting has gone far too soft.

The 76-year-old KISS star made the blunt remarks while promoting his new film Deep Water, insisting his children, Nick and Sophie, had to earn every penny growing up.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Simmons blasted what he called “woke” parenting, saying children today are allowed far too much freedom and entitlement.

The rocker explained there were strict rules in his house and no free handouts.

“If the kids wanted money, they had to work for it,” he said, recalling how his children would negotiate payment for chores like taking out the rubbish or mowing the lawn.

Forever hitmaker believes giving children money for nothing only “trains losers” and said youngsters must understand that “money doesn’t grow on trees”.

The outspoken musician also reflected on his own upbringing, praising his mother for working tirelessly in a sweatshop after moving to America and never complaining despite difficult conditions.

But despite his tough-love attitude, he couldn’t hide his pride in his children’s success.

Daughter Sophie, 33, has built a career in music production and songwriting, reportedly working with acts including Train and several K-pop artists.

Meanwhile, son Nick, 37, has had music featured in hit TV dramas including Ozark and Prodigal Son.

Now that KISS have retired from touring following their End of the Road tour, Simmons says family life means more than ever.
