Anne Hathaway is considered as one of the most-loved celebrities nowadays based on her global popularity.
Her latest project, The Devil Wears Prada 2, has reunited her fans with her Andy Sachs role 20 years after the original hit.
The actress, who’s honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2019, is currently enjoying the highest of highs in her career.
But this was not the case a few years ago when the internet turned on Anne for seemingly no reason.
The actress, who was once known for her iconic roles in Princess Diaries franchise or TDWP suddenly became the subject of memes, mean social media posts and unwarranted cyberbullying.
It all started when she won an Oscar for her role in Les Misérables back in 2013 after which she was widely mocked online.
Some critics noted at the time that people felt like she was unworthy of her accolades, or that she was obnoxious simply because she expressed happiness at her own success.
All of this toxicity did affect Anne’s career and she told Vanity Fair, “A lot of people wouldn't give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online.”
However, the actress mentioned that it was Christopher Nolan who eventually saved her career by casting her in his hit 2014 movie, Interstellar, alongside Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Timothee Chalamet so on so forth.
Calling Chris “an angel,” Anne pointed out that he “didn’t care and gave me one of the most beautiful roles”.
“My career didn’t lose momentum because he backed me,” added The Intern actress.
With an estimated net worth of around $80 million, Anne’s fortune in 2026 reflects more than two decades of consistent success due to blockbuster movies, awards-season dramas and high-end franchises.
At the work front, she will next be seen in Verity, which will release in theatres later this year.
