Meryl Streep recently made controversial statement against Marvel movies and its impact in Hollywood.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 star noted that the superhero movies sort of moved away from showing off shades of grey in their heroes and villain because of “marvelization” of modern movies.
“I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now,” said the 76-year-old while speaking on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show alongside TDWP2 costars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.
Meryl argued that they “got the villains and the good guys, and it’s so boring”.
The Mamma Mia! actress mentioned that the persuasive storytelling comes from characters who resist easy categorisation.
Elsewhere in the interview, Meryl pointed out that the interesting part about life is that “some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths”.
“So that’s what I like about this film. It’s messier,” added The Iron Lady actress.
In another interview with Today, Meryl opened up about doubling her salary on the Disney sequel by rejecting an offer to her iconic Miranda Priestly role.
“They called me up and they made an offer, and I said, ‘No, not going to do it,’” recalled the Julie and Julia actress.
However, Meryl noted that this new movie “was going to be a hit, and I wanted to see if I doubled my ask”.
“And they went right away and said, ‘Sure.’ I thought, I’m 50-60 [years old] — it took me this long to understand that I could do that! They needed me, I felt. I was ready to retire. That was a lesson,” explained the actress.
