Jimmy Jam breaks silence on MJ and Prince studio contrast

Jimmy Jam is sharing insight into the creative differences and quiet respect between Michael Jackson and Prince behind the scenes of their music careers.

At the Hollywood premiere of Michael on April 20, the producer revealed to the publisher that people often called them rivals, but the reality was more complex.

As per People magazine, the music producer believes there was both professional competition and an underlying respect.

He said, “Prince would start a record in the morning and by the end of the day it would be finished, mixed, and ready to go.”

Despite ongoing talk of rivalry, the industry veteran believes there was admiration on both sides. 

Even if their studio styles likely would have clashed, he says they still influenced each other creatively in subtle ways.

Meanwhile, there has also been long-standing speculation that Prince declined involvement in We Are the World because of Michael’s presence, although it was never officially confirmed.
