Olivia Rodrigo shared insights and details about her upcoming album, You Look Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
The Déjà vu singer, who previously dated British actor Louis Partridge, revealed that her latest record explores the feeling of falling in love for the first time.
During her appearance on the On Air with Ryan Seacrest, shared, “I started writing this album at a time in my life where I was experiencing real romantic love for the first time.”
Revealing what the album title meant to her, she added that she was tasked with “writing an album full of love song,” realising that, “hey were really happy, but they had sort of an element of sadness or fear or melancholy or longing.”
"That's what kind of made them tug at your heartstrings so much and that's what moved you so much," the Driver’s Licence singer explained.
Rodrigo further reflected on the emotional core of her new album, suggesting that it doesn’t fit into a single category like vulnerability or healing.
She described the project as layered, saying, “there’s a lot going on” and noting its “hard to encapsulate it in one word,” embracing the fact that it feels “all over the place” with “so much that the fact it feels “all over the place” with “so much to unpack.”
Rodrigo has released her first solo single of the album, Drop Dead with music video on April 17. You Look Pretty Sad for a Girl so in Love is slated for release on June 12.
