Bryan Adams has revealed that his timeless classic Summer of '69 was not a chronological reference at all, but a amorous indiscretion.

During interviews shared on Saturday, April 25, the Canadian pop-rocker confided in Classic Rock magazine that the title is actually a private gag referring to a particular sex act rather than being about the year.

Notably, the 66-year-old singer-songwriter was only nine at the time.

"I still think it's a great lyric. Probably the best I've ever written," Adams told Vox in a more recent interview.

The 1984 hit, which was originally intended to be called Those Were the Best Days of My Life, featured in a tribute to Bob Seger's Night Moves, featured on his multi-platinum Reckless album and peaked at No.5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Recording sessions commenced at Little Mountain studios, Vancouver in March 1984, though Adams, with co-writer Jim Vallance re-recorded and pumped up the volume of the rock anthem after his manager Bruce Allen thought the early recordings were lacking in rock-n-roll power.

Reckless became legendary for being one of only three albums by a male artist at the time to produce six US Top 15 singles (alongside albums by Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen).

Adams recently commented that the duet version with Taylor Swift released in 2018 was able to do justice.

The pop sensation performing a live together-with Billboard noting Summer of '69 as one of the best summer songs of all time.

The singer said that the opening four lines of the tune concerning the first real six-string were his greatest ever lyrics.
