Marissa Bode sparks backlash after shocking airline experience

Marissa Bode has called out Southern Airways after an incident she alleges left her stranded over accessibility concerns.

The Wicked actress shared a TikTok on April 23, explaining she was en route to Pennsylvania for a speaking engagement and had already completed part of her journey without issue on another airline.

“I was denied boarding a flight because I’m disabled,” she says at the beginning of her video.

According to her, the situation escalated at the gate when she asked staff for help finding her boarding pass.

“And the two people at the gate look at me and they’re like, ‘Can you stand?’ And I said, ‘No.’ And they said, ‘I’m sorry, because of that we’re gonna have to deny you boarding,’” she said.

She claimed airline staff insisted all aircraft required passengers to climb stairs, something she found hard to believe.

“They proceeded to tell me all the planes within this airline have stairs to get on the plane. Wild. Never heard of that before.”

Describing the moment as “blatant segregation,” she also said her wheelchair and carry on were flagged as potential issues despite prior assurances.

Moreover, she added her team had already checked with the airline about accessibility ahead of time.

She described the incident as far more than a simple mistake, saying her wheelchair represented her freedom and that incidents like this went far beyond a simple error.
