Carrie Underwood is explaining her judgement of contestants on American Idol, and why she prefers being completely honest.

The Jesus, Take the Wheel singer, who is a judge besides Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie, has received backlash for her criticism.

In an episode of the American Idol podcast with Danielle Fischel, the host said that the 43-year-old gave constructive criticism depending on the performance and got booed for some remarks.

Underwood said that she doesn’t care, to which the host noted that she knew and the show’s co-host.
Bryan jumped in to say "It's tough to do as a judge. It takes a lot of confidence in yourself and you don't want to say something that's going to tank them in the competition…”

The Before He Cheats singer stated, "I can't lie, I'm a terrible liar,” adding, “As a fan of the show, if there was ever somebody that kind of had an off night and everybody's like, 'Oh my God that's so great.' I'm sitting at home being like, 'What? Liars!' You want them to pay attention to those things going forward."

Underwood also defended the contestants saying that they are obviously talented or they wouldn’t be on the show.
