TLC, girl band recently got candid about their 1996 Grammy Awards speech where they infamously claimed they were broke.

Moreover, despite their huge album sales, and that is still applicable almost 30 years later.

On March 26, at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles, only members Chilli and T-Boz talked to People when they recalled the time their son watched the clip on the internet.

"My son sent that to me. He was like, 'Mom, I've never seen this, 'Mom, I have never seen this,'" she went on to explain.

The Chilli, 55, continued, "We didn't get pulled off. But I'm sure the label was not happy that we said that, but it was the truth."

T-Boz, 55, instantly backed her partner, "Hilarious. Yeah, it was the truth."

During the 1996 performance, TLC received Grammys in R&B Album of the Year and R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

During the press conference, T-Boz told, "We are the biggest-selling female group ever, 10 million albums worldwide."

She once again noted, "We have worked very hard... and we are broke as broke can be."

Late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes added, "You can sell 10 million albums and be broke if you have greedy people behind you."

Chilli informed People that she hopes their story will encourage other artists. She said, "We've learned so much and we are definitely very much in control of our business. So we don't play those games."

TLC will be a part of Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue in the It’s Iconic Tour that will start on August 15 in Franklin, Tennessee.

For the unversed, the 1990's trio turned into a duo after the death of Lisa Lopes at the age of 30 in 2002.
