Reality TV bad boy Spencer Pratt is making a shock surge in the race to become mayor of Los Angeles, and he’s already snapping at the heels of the political establishment.
The 42-year-old star has rocketed into second place in the latest mayoral poll, trailing incumbent Karen Bass, who sits at 25 per cent.
The former The Hills star has pulled in a surprising 11 per cent of support, edging ahead of city council member Nithya Raman, who trails with 9 per cent.
Notably, a huge 40 per cent of voters remain undecided, leaving the door wide open for a dramatic upset.
Spencer’s unlikely political rise comes after personal heartbreak.
He and wife Heidi Montag lost their home in last year’s devastating LA wildfires, a tragedy that left him feeling “untethered” and desperate for change.
In an emotional admission, he revealed that he felt isolated and overwhelmed in the aftermath, describing his life as “an abyss” as he struggled to rebuild while dealing with insurance setbacks and family distress.
Now, he’s channelling that pain into a fiery campaign and he’s not holding back.
Branding the system in Los Angeles as “fundamentally broken”, Spencer has vowed to shake up City Hall and “expose” what he claims is a network protecting the elite while ordinary residents suffer.
Speaking at a protest, he declared his mission to “disinfect” local politics and make LA “camera-ready again”.
He also took aim at Gavin Newsom, blaming state policies for creating an insurance crisis that he says left families vulnerable before disaster struck.
