Meryl Streep called out Hollywood's "Chick Flick" label on hit films and explained how it is now out-dated.

The Grammy winner, who has starred in 2006's hit and Mama Mia!, clapped back on critics for dismissing women-centric movies and shows.

The Death Becomes Her actress in her appearance at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, shared her frustration about The Devil Wears Prada being considered as a "Chick Flick" 20 years ago.

Adding that the title "has kind of not worn well."

Mentioning the critical success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie and her won film , Mama Mia!, the Deer Hunter star said that many female-led films "catch the studios by surprise [when] people want to see them, because they have girls in the centre of the story, women in the centre of the story."

Streep further shared the challenges a film faces due to such branding.

She shared that because her film was stereotyped the studio didn’t give it a big budget and the team had to "scramble" to make it.

However now, for the sequel the studio is spending money since they know these kind of movies can be a huge hit.

Streep will star opposite Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt.

The film will see Streep’s Miranda Priestly and Hathaway’s Andy Sachs reuniting amid changes in the modern fashion and journalism worlds.

The new faces starring in the project includes, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release on May 1.
