Teyana Taylor commented on a viral Oscars incident, alleging a man pushed her at the ceremony.
In the clip, the One Battle After Another star can be seen confronting a man in the crowd. She later clarified the situation and assured everyone that she’s fine.
“You’re a man putting your hands on a female,” she said in the video, adding repeatedly that the man is “very rude.” She told someone nearby, “he literally shoved me” and “he damn near shoved” another woman.
Speaking with TMZ about the incident, the 35-year-old actress stated, “Security was just doing a lot...The first thing people do is definitely make assumptions. But at the end of the day, I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and unprovoked.”
The Academy spoke out, expressing regret about the situation.“We were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor...We have worked with Teyana..., and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community,” the statement read.
“Though the incident was with our outside security firm SIS, the experience of every single guest is our responsibility... We want to thank Teyana for showing remarkable grace, and we are taking the appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again,” it added.
For the unfamiliar, Teyana Taylor lost the Best Supporting Actress award to Amy Madigan for Weapons, One Battle After Another became the night’s biggest winner, taking home six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson.
