Demi Lovato has candidly revealed the emotional toll of growing up in the spotlight.
The 33-year-old actress admitted that she battled “insecurities” as she was constantly compared to fellow Disney darlings Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus.
The Heart Attack hitmaker reflected on her early fame during an appearance on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast.
She confessed that the constant comparisons were tough to handle at such a young age.
“It was challenging when people are comparing you to one another and you naturally have insecurities,” Demi shared.
“You start comparing yourself to other people.”
But behind the scenes, the songstress had a powerful reminder from her mum that kept her grounded.
“There’s room for everyone. It’s not a competition. You have your own voice, your own lane,” she said.
Notably, this was the advice that ultimately helped her rise above the noise.
It's worth noting that Demi and Selena’s bond stretches back even further than their Disney days.
For those unfamiliar, the pair first met as children on the set of Barney & Friends, long before superstardom beckoned.
The Let It Go singer said that the friendship gave her a sense of comfort and security when she entered the spotlight.
She added that she remains deeply grateful for the bond they continue to share.
Now, Demi has turned reflection into healing.
While co-directing her 2024 documentary Child Star, she admitted the process helped her confront the darker side of early fame.
