Rosamund Pike experienced a whirlwind of emotions as she achieved a career milestone.

The Pride and Prejudice star won her first ever Olivier Award for her role in Inter Alia during the ceremony at the Albert Hall.

In an Instagram post, reflecting on her major win, she wrote, "Oh what a night… I still can’t believe it. CONFUSING emotions."

She added, "The recognition and support from that huge packed Albert Hall was so overwhelmingly beautiful."

The Gone Girl star went on to explain that the little girl inside her recalled her childhood dream of becoming an actress and experiencing the magic of theatre.

Meanwhile, "The woman in me (still shy on stage without the protection of a character) managed to stand steady and bring acceptance… finding words for an acceptance speech… whilst also feeling acceptance from this huge crowd."

Pike was up against Cate Blanchett, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Julia McDermott and Rosie Sheehy in the Best Actress category.

Written by Suzie Miller, Inter Alia stars Pike as Jessica Parks, a London Crown Court judge whose personal life clashes with her professional principles when her son is accused of rape.

In her teary acceptance speech she gave an emotional shout out to her castmates, Jamie Glover, Jasper Talbot and Cormac McAlinden.

She also expressed her gratitude to the London theatre community for welcoming her back after 14 years.

Following her success in British theatre, Pike is set to make her Broadway debut in Inter Alia at New York’s Musix Box Theatre, opening December 1.
