Justin Bieber is earning major praise from Diplo after his unconventional Coachella headline set sparked debate online.
The 32-year-old’s 90 minute set included songs from SWAG and SWAG II and surprise guests Wizkid, Tems, the Kid LAROI, Dijon and Mk.gee.
In an interview with PEOPLE, he called the performance “awesome,” and mentioned, “I was surprised he even went [back] to the classics, but the way he played it was amazing.”
He continued, “Nobody [else] could go to Coachella and just sit on his laptop and play off YouTube because that's like — that's legendary.”
Furthermore, the DJ noted, “It was like being at a party with him,” praising the set’s personal and spontaneous feel as the Peach singer revisited older hits like Baby and Favorite Girl alongside archived YouTube clips from his early career.
Additionally, a source told the publisher that the Sorry hitmaker was “happy” with the set and “not focused” on online chatter, adding, “He felt great about the set… He wanted to show up and do it his way.”
