Martin Short’s daughter Katherine dies in tragic apparent suicide: reports

Katherine Short, the 42-year-old daughter of comedy legend Martin Short, has tragically died at her Hollywood Hills home in what authorities believe was an apparent suicide. 

Heartbreaking 911 audio released by the Daily Mail reveals a dispatcher confirming that Katherine’s fatal gunshot wound appeared “self-inflicted.”

The audio captures a male dispatcher telling first responders that the person who called was “with the patient and unable to enter the bedroom” at the social worker’s home. 

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that first responders attended the address at 6.41pm on Monday February 23, reporting the death of a woman.

A representative for the 75-year-old comedian expressed the family’s devastation, saying: “With profound grief, the Short family mourns this loss. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world. They ask for privacy at this time.”

For those unfamiliar, Katherine was the adopted daughter of Martin and his late wife Nancy Dolman, who passed away from cancer in 2010. 

She grew up alongside her adopted brothers, Oliver Patrick, 39, and Henry Hayter, 36. 

It's worth noting that the details of any mental health struggles Katherine may have faced have not been made public.

The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through fans and colleagues alike, who remember her as a bright presence in her family’s life, leaving a profound void for those who knew and loved her.
