Pixar Animation Studio has released the highly anticipated trailer for Toy Story 5.

Seven years after its part four which saw Woody (Tom Hanks) choosing independence over life in Bonnie's toy chest, is set to return to save the day.

The film is based on toys purpose when childhood gets dominated by technology.

In the trailer Woody and Buzz reunites to save Bonnie from her new lilypad smart tablet.

They team up with Jessie (Joan Cusack), Forky (Tony Hale), Slinky Dog (Blake Clarke), Hamm (John Ratzenberger), Trixie (Kristen Schaal) and an army of Buzz Lightyears to stop technology taking over kids' lives.

It kicks off with Jessie confides in Woody that tech have invaded her house.

"Toys are for play, but tech is for everything," Woody says to a sad Jessie. She responds, "I'm losing Bonnie to this device."

Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton serves as director and screenwriter.

He has described the film less as a traditional good-versus-evil showdown and more as an existential reckoning for toys facing obsolescence.

The new cast includes Greta Lee and Conan O'Brien (Smarty Pants).

Toy Story 5 will release in cinemas on June 19.
