Jesy Nelson has revealed she resorted to secret weight-loss injections and extreme dieting while preparing for a video shoot, shedding new light on the pressures she faced during her time in the hit girl group.
In the upcoming Prime Video documentary Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, the 34-year-old pop star recounts how, amid the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, she panicked at the prospect of filming the band’s Holiday video in beachwear.
She admits she frantically searched online for “the quickest way to lose a stone in five days” and began using weight-loss injections in secret.
Nelson’s mother, Jan, later discovered the injections and voiced concern over her daughter’s extreme efforts to change her body, saying Jesy had also been starving herself in the lead-up to work commitments.
According to Daily Mail, the Prime Video series delves into Nelson’s ongoing battles with body image and self-esteem, which she traces back to the early days of her fame after joining Little Mix on The X Factor in 2011.
Despite the band’s massive success, including multiple UK No.1 singles and millions of records sold, Nelson has long spoken about the toll online trolling and industry expectations took on her mental health.
