Ellie Goulding never thought she’d be pouring her heartbreak into a full-blown “divorce album” but life, as she admits, had other plans.

The 39-year-old pop star, who is set to release her new album this year, has revealed that it was shaped by the emotional fallout from her split with ex-husband Caspar Jopling.

What began as a fresh creative chapter slowly transformed into something far more personal, raw and reflective.

Speaking candidly, Ellie shared how she once believed her marriage would last forever.

Some tracks, she says, were written in the thick of sadness and emotional reaction, while others were created simply to honour that chapter of her life with respect.

As time passed, so did her feelings as the songs evolved from dark and angry, to cynical, then lighter and even joyful, as she found herself falling in love again.

Now expecting a baby with her new boyfriend Beau Minniear, the songstress says the album mirrors her emotional journey perfectly.

For the unversed, she also shares son Arthur, four, with Caspar, a connection she says will always remain part of her story.

Open about her struggles with fame and mental health, Ellie also praised singer Lola Young for taking a break after collapsing on stage, calling it a “recalibration.”
