Lizzo has revealed the bold reason behind the provocative title of her upcoming album B****.

The 38-year-old chart star insisted that she is “reclaiming the word” and turning it into something powerful and positive.

The pop superstar is gearing up for a major comeback with the record, due out in June, and says the name is all about confidence, self-love and flipping an insult on its head.

In a statement, Lizzo explained that what was once used to tear women down is now being used as a badge of pride.

“Reclaiming the word B**** is power,” she said.

“It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love.”

The Pink singer pointed to female icons in music who helped shape her thinking, including Meredith Brooks and her 1997 hit B****, as well as Missy Elliott’s She’s a B**** from 1999.

She also referenced her own 2019 anthem Truth Hurts, where she famously declared: “I’m 100 per cent that b****.”

Good as Hell hitmaker added: “So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity… it was only fitting to name my album B**** because it has become my favourite word when using it on my own terms.”

The new project will be her first studio album since 2022’s Special, with the title track set to drop on May 1.

But behind the excitement, Lizzo has also admitted she’s been uneasy about releasing music in today’s fast-moving digital world.

Speaking about the industry on TikTok, she described it as “in complete shambles”, saying streaming and algorithms have made it harder for even major artists to reach listeners.
