Timothée Chalamet has gained a lot of disapproval from internet users for his confident remarks about his performance in Marty Supreme, but the director of the sports comedy, Josh Safdie, is backing the star of his film.

The Uncut Gems film maker has been all praise for the Dune star, and is continuing to share his endearment over the actor’s personality and acting.

In his interview with GQ about the film, Josh stated that he could sense and spot the kind of drive present in the titular character in The Little Women actor.

“With Timmy, he was very interested in mining and tapping that drive that he had before Call Me by Your Name, before becoming a star. It's my job to work with each actor and tap into something in a psychological sense...” the film maker revealed.

Elsewhere Josh added, “I'm really lucky to have Timmy because he—genius is an overused word. He just has a way of thinking about culture. He just is so in touch with the fabric of life, I can just watch him do it,” referring to the marketing of the film.

The 41-year-old has also revealed that the movie was written for Timothée, and for the dreamer in him that he spotted years ago when he met him in 2017.

Why did Josh and Benny Safdie split?

Josh split from his brother Benny Safdie, who is a film maker and an actor himself, as a result of a falling out the two had.
