The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, is expected to retire after wrapping the highly-anticipated tour.

As the 35-year-old singer’s After Hours 'Til Dawn tour is nearing its end next year, Abel took a major step for his music.

The Blinding Lights hitmaker decided to finalise a deal with Lyric Capital Group, agreeing to invest in his music rights.

After Variety revealed the business agreement, the online community were puzzled if Abel decided to give up his rights of masterpieces created in his career.

However, the arrangement is one of a kind as he and his team will continue to manage the catalogue creatively, keeping the musician in full control over music.

The Popular singer will retain shares and stay the “owners in the company” as he made it clear that he had no intention to “sell his” discography.

The parties came up with “a new business model” designed to keep the “publishing and masters” rights with him and work on “their creative vision.”

It is to be noted that The Weeknd’s current deal and its clauses do not apply to “any future” albums and music projects.

He and XO music group partnership stays unaffected from the model.

While the whooping amount from financial settlement was reported, the $1 billion is merely “calculated asset” by sources which also price the annual earnings from his tracks at $55 million.

The experts further expect future yearly earnings of “18.2 times multiple” upfront.

If the numbers are correct, The Weeknd made history with one of the biggest deals for a solo artist’s catalogue.

How many monthly listeners does The Weeknd have?

Abel set record by gaining more than 120 million streamers on Spotify while his musical journey surpassed the one billion mark for a solo male performer.
