Meghan Markle has reportedly taken a decisive step in her long-running family rift, with claims she has deleted her father Thomas Markle’s phone number and has no intention of seeing him again.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, has been estranged from her father since 2018, the same year she married Prince Harry. Thomas Markle is currently recovering in a hospital in the Philippines after undergoing a leg amputation, but despite his recent health crisis, reports suggest Meghan has not re-established direct contact.
According to the Sunday Times, Meghan has chosen not to call her father while he remains in hospital, fearing that any phone conversation could be overheard or made public.
Instead, she is said to have sent a letter, which was hand-delivered to him earlier this week.
The letter is understood to have addressed Meghan’s feelings about her father repeatedly speaking to the media about their fractured relationship, with the hope that her message would remain private.
Despite the delivery of the letter, there has reportedly been no response from Thomas Markle.
At the time of writing, it is believed Meghan has not received any reply, nor has there been any further contact between them.
Sources also claim Meghan has now deleted her father’s phone number altogether, signalling what appears to be a firm decision to maintain distance and draw a line under the relationship.
The development comes amid ongoing public pleas from Thomas Markle to reconcile with his daughter, but insiders suggest Meghan feels that years of media interviews have caused irreparable damage, leaving little prospect of a reunion.
