The real reason behind Prince Harry’s surprise UK security review has now been revealed, and it was the Duke himself who set it in motion.
Prince Harry, 41, personally requested that his security arrangements in Britain be reassessed after previously losing a high-profile legal challenge over the issue.
According to reports, the Duke of Sussex wrote directly to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, formally requesting a full security risk assessment.
Following Harry’s intervention, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) is understood to have instructed its Risk Management Board (RMB) to re-evaluate the threat level against the prince.
Crucially, this marks the first time such a review has been carried out since 2020, the year Harry stepped down as a working royal and relocated to US.
The reassessment could prove pivotal for Harry, who has long insisted that it is unsafe for his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to visit the UK without enhanced protection.
According to The Sun, the RMB will now gather evidence from police, government officials and Harry’s own security team before submitting its findings to Ravec.
The final decision is expected to be presented in January 2026.
A Government spokesperson commented cautiously on the development, saying:
“The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our longstanding policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
