Prince Harry is facing sharp backlash after taking two public swipes at US President Donald Trump, a move one royal expert says was anything but smart.
Over the past two weeks, the Duke of Sussex has doubled down on political humour, first during his surprise cameo on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
When asked whether Americans were really “obsessed with royalty,” Harry shot back: “Really? I hear you elected a king.”
The remark was widely interpreted as a jab at Trump, echoing the “No Kings” protests that emerged during his administration.
Days later, he made another unexpected appearance, this time at the British American Business Council in Santa Monica, and delivered yet another Trump-tinged punchline.
Discussing the 2026 World Cup, Harry riffed on US immigration policies: “Provided they behave, and if they make it through customs, and past ICE. The British are coming, hungry for victory and they're thirsty.”
While Harry is no longer a working royal and therefore not bound by the Palace’s strict political neutrality rules, his decision to poke fun at a US president is raising eyebrows.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Harry’s been an extra twice in the last week, once in the critically excoriated With Love, Meghan and the other on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show.
“The former was pretty meaningless, although we learnt what foods he doesn’t like. The latter was silly, and it wasn’t wise to mock Donald Trump!’”
