Ed Sheeran talks about his intentions the behind deeply personal lyrics he often writes about his relationship with Cherry Seaborn.
The Perfect singer insists that his songs reflect emotional moments not constant reality as rumours of marital strain swirl online.
The 34-year-old songwriter performed at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at The O2 over the weekend, where he also attended a Spotify pop-up and addressed the speculation.
Speaking to fans he explains, “People listen to records today and assume that what that song is, is their world 100% at the time,” he said, noting that songwriting naturally magnifies whatever emotion he’s feeling in that moment.
“You never write a song on a ‘meh’ day,” he added.
“You always write songs like, ‘This is the most loving I’ve ever felt… this is the angriest I’ve ever felt.’”
Ed stressed that emotional highs and lows are what fuel his creativity, urging from refraining assumptions about ongoing issues in his marriage.
“That’s where the song exists, and that’s why people connect to them… people have these big feelings.”
The Shape of You hittmaker, who married Cherry in 2019, shares two daughters with her Lyra and Jupiter.
While the internet has recently stirred up chatter about the couple’s relationship, Ed’s comments make it clear that his music isn’t a diary of daily drama but a snapshot of amplified emotion.
