In her interview with the New York Times, the director stated, “Performance is inherently vulnerable and therefore quite embarrassing and unmasculine, there’s no bravado in suggesting that you’re a mouthpiece for someone else’s ideas.”

Kristen’s remarks were a part of a larger conversation about Marlon Brando’s mispronunciation of a word in the 1978 Superman, and she also discussed the ways men attempt to downplay the vulnerability that comes with acting.
