Vocal coach Eric Vetro loved working with Ariana Grande on Wicked: For Good.
The 32-year-old stars as Glinda in the sequel, which was released Nov. 21, and rehearsed its music, including the duet For Good with Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba.
Vetro says the song particularly moved him during rehearsals, as he spoke with PEOPLE.
“So many people have at least one person they feel that way about,” he told the outlet. “When Ariana sang it, it made me emotional because that’s how I feel about her.”
Eric Vetro has worked with Ariana Grande since her teenage years, before her Broadway debut in 13: The Musical.
The lyrics of For Good, “Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better? But because I knew you, I have been changed for good," resonated deeply with him, reflecting the enduring bond they share.
“Working with her has changed me in so many wonderful ways,” Vetro said.
Watching Grande and Cynthia Erivo perform the song on the big screen years later even moved him to tears.
“I’ve learned so much from her about kindness and genuinely caring for people,” he added.
Though Grande is a global superstar with countless hits, Vetro has a front-row seat to the thoughtful, empathetic side of the singer that fans don’t always see.
