Sir Elton John raises his voice in a plea to world politicians to continue with in-depth research on HIV/AIDS from the world.
The 78-year-old pop star spoke about the lack of interest and support for the cause from political figures, saying that politicians are capable of providing help to bring an end to the disease. "I just am enraged by it," he said, while talking to Variety.
"It's very frustrating when you've got the tools in your hand to end it, and then you find that countries in Africa, Russia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe won't help,” he continued.
While discussing the efforts of the US on the matter, Elton appreciated the work of the current administration on resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, but expressed disappointment with the disregard for the crucial issue of HIV and AIDS.
"There's another war with people who are suffering from HIV and AIDS that should be able to get their medicine but can't, because governments won't let them. It's inhumane," Elton said.
"So, my big beef at the moment is, yes, thank God, maybe there's peace, after more things are sorted out. But there are crimes against millions of other people that are happening because of governments and stigma and hate,” Sir Elton mentioned.
Elton John AIDS Foundation is a non-profit organisation of the singer, which currently stands as the fifth largest funder for research into the disease globally.
