King Charles set for first US visit in years, if doctors approve the trip

King Charles may be preparing for a landmark visit to the United States next year to mark America’s 250th anniversary, according to new reports.

If confirmed, it would be the monarch’s first trip to the US since 2018, when he attended the funeral of President George H. W. Bush on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.

Sources in both Washington D.C. and London told The Sun that discussions are underway for a full State Visit in April 2026, hosted by US President Donald Trump.

Queen Camilla is expected to accompany the King, provided his health allows him to undertake international travel.

The prospective visit would form part of a series of high-profile events expected to lead into the country’s July 4 Independence Day celebrations.

According to the report, President Trump is planning an extensive programme of commemorative events, and hosting King Charles is said to be among the centrepieces of those plans.

Charles recently marked his 77th birthday and continues to receive cancer treatment following his diagnosis in February 2024.

As a result, palace officials are said to be monitoring his health closely before any final decision is made. Buckingham Palace has not yet confirmed whether the trip will go ahead.

The US visit would follow just months after the King and Queen welcomed President Trump and First Lady Melania to the UK in September.

Reflecting on that meeting, a White House official told The Telegraph: "It was a really fantastic trip. The British know how to do this perfectly. They set the bar high for their trip to see us."
