Princess Beatrice opens up about daughter’s complicated birth
The princess gave birth to daughter Athena in January 2025
Princess Beatrice has opened up about her daughter’s complicated birth almost a year since going into labour.
The 37-year-old welcomed her second daughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi on January 22 2025.
However, the baby girl was born several weeks premature.
Speaking about the situation on the Borne podcast, she said, “I think so often, especially as mums, we spend our lives feeling we have to be perfect.”
“When you are faced with that moment of learning your baby's going to come a bit early, it can be incredibly lonely.”, she added.
Beatrice shared her experience of talking to other mothers who have been through something similar as November 17 marks the World Prematurity Day.
She also shared her experience of her work with the premature birth research charity Borne.
“And I love the fact that Borne is there to support them [mothers] when they're going through something incredibly traumatic”
The princess said it is a “sense of life-changing relief” when you know there is an organisation that supports the research.
Previously in March, the princess said she cried “tears of relief” when her daughter was born.
World Prematurity Day is organised annually by the World Health Organization to spread awareness for the complications of premature birth and support research and improved care.
