Ellie Goulding, who has stepped back into the spotlight with Destiny, her first solo release since 2023’s Higher Than Heaven, has left fans emotional after making a surprising and deeply personal revelation.
The 38-year-old star, who announced her separation from Caspar Jopling in early 2024, has now opened up about the deep turmoil behind their marriage breakdown.
Ellie revealed that she leaned entirely on music to pull herself through the darkest period of her life.
She admitted that her return to the studio was less about a comeback and more about survival.
Speaking to NME, the Love Me Like You Do singer confessed the end of her marriage to Caspar left her feeling “broken in a way I never expected,” describing the split as a grief-like process.
“It doesn’t matter how strong a character you have,” she said.
“Separating from your husband… you can never be strong enough for that. It’s like mourning a future that suddenly disappeared.”
Despite the pain, the songstress says she slowly began to feel herself again, “It was a long process.… but I’m healing.”
Furthermore, the Hate Me hitmaker revealed that channelling her heartbreak into lyrics became her lifeline.
Ellie, who shares four-year-old son Arthur with her ex-husband, revealed she discovered producer Jack Rochon during this turbulent time.
After seeing him play guitar online, she messaged him instantly, and they met the same day.
“That was the start of the journey,” she said, crediting the collaboration with helping her feel whole again.
