Prince William delivered a diplomatic masterclass during a live interview at the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, gracefully dodging a question that appeared to reference his scandal-hit uncle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
The 43-year-old heir to the throne sat down with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour to discuss his environmental initiative but was caught off-guard when asked about “change” within the Royal Family, a subtle nod to recent upheavals following Andrew’s loss of titles and royal privileges.
When pressed, William effortlessly steered the conversation back to his work, replying: “I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it. I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”
One X user wrote: “He recognized a trap and sidestepped it with class. It wasn’t the time or place for gossip.”
Another praised the prince’s restraint, adding: “Unlike Harry, William doesn’t air family laundry. He pivoted like a true statesman.”
