Macaulay Culkin channels Kevin McCallister again

Macaulay Culkin reprised his iconic Home Alone role as Kevin McCallister for a new Christmas advertising campaign titled “Home But Not Alone”

The 45-year-old, best known for his character, Kevin in the campaign promoted message about family and ageing, for Home Instead, a company providing in-home care for elderly.

This time, the character of Kevin’s focus is on keeping his mother, Kate McCallister, played again by 71-year-old Catherine O’Hara, safe at home.

The newly-released clips promos of the campaign, Macaulay steps into his character from the original films. The emotional ad opens with a hand-drawn map titled “Mom’s Safety Plan”, showing danger zones and notes to remind Kevin secure preventive measures.

The character of Kevin’s focus is on keeping his mother, Kate McCallister, played again by 71-year-old Catherine O’Hara, safe at home.

Kevin is seen wrapping outdoor decorations in bubble wrap, saying, “I’m just worried about mom being by herself, y’know? What if she falls down or gets snowed in? They never did catch that South Bay Shovel Slayer.”

When his conversation is interrupted by the noise of shovel scraping the pavement, slipping him into his childhood trauma from the films neighbour but the Old Man Marley’s granddaughter is clearing the snow.

She suggests a different strategy, asking: “Have you tried talking to her about getting a little help?

“The scariest part is starting that conversation. Then at least you’ll know and can stop worrying about it. It’s not easy, but how you feel about family is a complicated thing.”

The campaign director, Jody Hill, addressed People, as he wanted to tell story authentically, recognising that everyone has experienced this moment with a loved one at some point.

Jody added, “It goes beyond holiday nostalgia to connect with Kevin McCallister years later – as he faces the same concerns many of us have as our parents age. It’s real, it’s funny, and it’s deeply human.”

The ads will be released during broadcasts of Home Alone and other festive programming.

The actor’s connection between himself and Kevin remains strong despite a long time period and is one now shared with his own family.
