Aimee Lou Wood sat down for an interview where she opened up about raising her voice in important situations.
After having called out Saturday Night Live for a mean spirited sketch, she opened up about an incident on the set of the film, Anxious People.
Starring alongside Angelina Jolie, she recalled a scene where she was receiving several directions from multiple shouting crew members.
The actress ended up having to make it clear that she wanted one specific direction and didn't want to see any movement in her line of sight.
“I’ve spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative – but now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won’t work for me,” she told Harper's Bazaar. “When I spoke up, all I could see was Angelina giving me a thumbs up. She’s possibly the most famous woman ever, but she’s so normal.”
Lou Wood admitted to feeling a similar sense of catharsis after calling out SNL, which felt the same as standing up to childhood bullies.
She went on to call Hollywood “bulimic” for how it treats people, “I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time. And then I leave, and I want to throw it all up.”
