Kristen Stewart warns: Hollywood in ‘state of emergency’

Kristen Stewart recently addressed the Academy and Chanel’s 2025 Women’s Luncheon in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Nov. 4

The 35-year-old released her feature directorial debut, Chronology of Water in December bringing attention to what she framed as “the elephant in the room,” describing the barriers female filmmakers continue to face.

The Underwater actress, after her first major directorial effort, expressed, “But I can now attest to the bare-knuckle brawling that it takes every single frame, when the content is too dark, too taboo”.

The American star shared her observations about routine experiences faced by women that frequently provoke disgust and rejection toward them.

Stewart stated in frustration, “So in my hormonally activated state let's get further into this. It's awkward to talk about inequality for some people, and it's more awkward when the nature of inequality is somewhat ephemeral."

The star mentioned wage gaps, taxes on basic needs like tampons, and measured it in lots of quantifiable ways, but the violence is being silenced.

She continued angrily, “It's like we're not even supposed to be angry. But I can eat this podium with a fork and f------ knife, I'm so angry.

"The backsliding from our brief moment of progress is statistically devastating,” she said. “It is devastating. Such a pitiful number of films from the past last year have been made by women.”

The Oscar-nominated actress was completely enraged, “Our business is in a state of emergency, man”, declaring it as a “misogynist cacophony”.

Moreover, she emphasized that every individual, even a child, should be free to express their true self, whatever it is. Every woman has a right to use their voice, truth about how they feel.

Stewart concluded that turning a blind eye won’t help anyone.
