American singer Billie Eilish confesses she almost binned her biggest hit yet
Billie Eilish, known for her chart-topping hits, has made a major revelation about her music career.
The 23-year-old pop sensation has revealed she almost ditched her mega-hit Birds of a Feather, despite it becoming one of the biggest songs of her musical journey.
She admitted she thought the track was “kind of stupid” while putting the finishing touches on her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, the BLUE singer confessed: “Multiple times I was like, ‘We should cut this.’
Even when I played the whole album for the label, I was like, ‘Guys, this one is kind of stupid.’”
She explained that she deliberately added “something dark” to this song to avoid making it “all rainbows and smiles”.
Since its release on May 17, Birds of a Feather has racked up over 3 billion Spotify streams, peaked at No.2 on the Billboard 200, and topped the Billboard Global 200 for three weeks.
The hit has also earned Billie Grammy nods for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
While reflecting on her early critics, Billie said: “It’s so funny to think back on all the criticisms that were like, ‘The songs are too sad.’ So many people and companies wanted us to make happier songs.”
The singer, who previously battled writer’s block, also revealed she’s back in the studio with her brother Finneas, working on a follow-up album and, surprisingly, spending her downtime crocheting.

She dated rapper Brandon Quentin Adams (known as 7:AMP) from 2018 to 2019, followed by actor Matthew Tyler Vorce from 2021 to 2022.
Billie was then in a relationship with The Neighbourhood frontman Jesse Rutherford between 2022 and 2023.
In 2024, she was rumoured to be dating influencer Quenlin Blackwell, though neither confirmed the speculation.
