Jay-Z’s decision to put under-represented artists in the limelight has not been taken well by all, but the iconic rapper has stepped up to defend Bad Bunny.
The Roc Nation mogul announced that the Puerto Rican artist would be headlining the Super Bowl LX’s halftime show, only to be hit with petitions against it.
It appears that the hate is coming from conservative critics, who have started a petition for the Monaco singer to be replaced by the country music singer George Strait.
In a statement to TMZ, Jay-Z said, “They love him, don’t let them fool you,” referring to Bad Bunny against the recent opposition.
Meanwhile the petition, which has over 95,000 signatures, notes that the show should “unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly.”
It also calls the 31-year-old’s performances to ones that have a drag-like style and are the opposite of what families expect.
Along with this, President Donald Trump’s remark, in which he said he had never heard of the three-time Grammy winner only added fuel to the fire.
Bad Bunny’s fears of deportation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE have also been exacerbated by officials.
Bad Bunny is considered one of the best Latin rappers of all time, after he gained popularity with his 2016 hit Soy Peor.
