Demi Moore on discomfort of playing exotic dancer in ‘Striptease’

Demi Moore has dished on how it felt playing bold, daring roles, such as an exotic dancer in Striptease or a lieutenant in G.I. Jane in 1996 and 1997, respectively.

On Saturday, October 26, during her appearance at the New Yorker Festival, Moore reflected on her decades-long acting career while speaking to journalist Jia Tolentino.

“I really feel like roles choose you as much as you choose them… There is a thread that goes through, even if it's an unconscious one,” she said, as per The Mirror reports.

The Golden Globe winner believes that her roles also challenge the status quo. She admitted that many of her roles pushed her towards confronting her insecurities, specifically mentioning her two late ’90s films.

“There is a certain physicality,” she reflected, “and I think that a lot of that was in an effort also for me to overcome some of my own issues around my body and my own discomfort in my own body.”

Moore pointed out the particular films that were more physical for her, including G.I. Jane and Striptease, where she “really knew that [her] body was a real pivotal part of the character.”

The movies challenged her to face her true self and confront the discomfort by realizing that it was going to be shared on a certain level.
