George Clooney, still ruling the industry at 64, has spoken candidly about Hollywood’s fixation with staying young.

The screen icon, who stars in and directs Netflix’s upcoming film Jay Kelly, says ageing in the spotlight can be a brutal experience.

While speaking to Empire magazine, Clooney admitted fans often forget that their favourite stars grow older too.

“You really do live your life through people’s actors and pictures,” he said.

“And you’re not allowed to get old. I have people come up to me all the time saying, ‘You’re a lot older than I thought.’ Like, f*** off! I’m 64!”

In Jay Kelly, the Wolfs star Clooney plays a fictional movie legend looking back at his life, with real clips from Clooney’s own past films woven into the story.

“There’s a weird thing where the older you get, you look at this stuff and go, ‘Wow, that was a long time ago.’ From my eyes, it was a minute ago,” he reflected.

The legendary actor also revealed a personal touch in the film: his real-life security guard of 30 years, Giovanni Zeqireya, appears alongside him.
