Twitch is in hot waters after an incident occurred during the meet and greet event, TwitchCon 2025 involving streamer Emiru.
Born Emily-Beth Schunk, the internet personality had been taking photos with one of her fans when a man appeared to grab and try to kiss her without permission.
Her own security team intervened to stop the man and take him away, but Twitch’s security did not apprehend him until hours had passed.
Schunk took to her social media to call out the platform for their negligence, "Yesterday, the man who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers at twitchcon and even in front of another creators meet and greet to grab me and my face and try to kiss me. Fortunately he wasn't able to, but a lot of people have pointed out it could have been a lot worse!"
Although she reassured her fans that she was alright, the streamer admitted that she was hurt by the lax actions taken by Twitch, "I'm obviously shaken up by what happened and it's not the first time I've dealt with something like this, but to tell you honestly, I am a lot more hurt and upset by how Twitch handled it during and after the fact."
She further insisted that their claim that the man had been apprehended immediately was a lie, and that several of their guards stood by while the incident occurred.
After receiving major backlash from fans and other streamers, the CEO of Twitch put out an apology, saying they "failed, both in allowing [the incident] to occur and in our response following."
