News outlet TMZ has responded to criticism of their staff members allegedly laughing during the announcement of republican Charlie Kirk’s death.
Disputing the claims, they stated that while certain reporters had been covering the incident during a live stream, the others had been cheering at a car chase.
Kirk was fatally shot earlier while at a college campus by an unknown shooter, as TMZ’s statement stated, "We want to make it clear...they were not cheering in response to the assassination. Nevertheless ... watching a car chase at that moment was tone deaf, and the sounds of laughter at that crucial moment were totally out of line."
In another video, in which they were "addressing tone deaf laughter", staff "apologized for the way it sounded."
Laura Loomer, a far-right political activist, posted the video in which cheering could be heard with the caption, “DISGUSTING: During the @TMZ livestream today, employees at TMZ could be heard CHEERING 30 seconds before
@charliekirk11’s death was announced on the TMZ livestream. They were happy to hear the news of Charlie Kirk’s death and can be heard clapping and cheering before passing the news to Harvey Levin, who was hosting the stream. @HarveyLevinTMZ needs to condemn this.”
The death of Kirk has triggered intense debates all across the internet and social media, with many celebrating the incident, many condemning it, while others express concern over how the political situation in the country will be worsened due to the shooting.
