Jimmy Kimmel recently opened up about how his beginnings in late night were a little rough, and instead of support he is receiving more hate.

The talk show host became the face of  Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January of 2003, and although he has improved at interviewing, the comedian recalls a time when he felt very downcast.

"I didn't know what I was doing, and I would pray that they canceled the show sometimes,” the 57-year-old stated on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast on Wednesday, October 22.

Jimmy went on to add that he didn’t want to quit so that he didn’t disappoint people working for him but felt like he “couldn't do it anymore."

The Emmy winning host also revealed that things were difficult because the show couldn’t attract star power and celebrities at the time.

Internet users took to social media soon after the interview to leave scathing comments, putting the show’s host down, even further.

“Kimmel has never figured out "how to do it". His show has devolved into one long boring and unfunny political diatribe..” one netizen wrote, while another added “I hope his prayers are answered too, tomorrow would be wonderful.”

“Ironic that he finally got his wish. And now he’s mad that he did,” a third netizen said, likely referring to his temporary hiatus for political troubles.

“Kimmel is still on the air? I guess someone has to entertain the 30-year old adolescents,” a fourth internet user wrote.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say that got him off the air?

Jimmy had talked about Charlie Kirk’s shooter soon after his death, which was deemed insensitive by the show’s creators.
