Jimmy Kimmel admits he came close to leaving Late-Night TV

Jimmy Kimmel is revealing the point where he almost canceled his talk show in its early days, hoping it wouldn’t last.

On Wednesday, October 22, during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, Kimmel shared that he felt like quitting his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!

"I didn't know what I was doing, and I would pray that they canceled the show sometimes," Kimmel told host Ted Danson. "I didn't want to quit because I didn't want to disappoint all the many people who worked for me, but I couldn't. I was just, I couldn't do it anymore."

Jimmy Kimmel Live! debuted on ABC in January 2003, shortly after Kimmel’s stint as co-host of Comedy Central’s The Man Show.

Now in its 24th season and running for over two decades, Kimmel told Danson, 77, that the early days were tough, mainly because the show often “didn’t have guests.”

Kimmel recalled that the show’s running time was 12:05 a.m., and there used to be moments when the guests weren’t decided by the afternoon for that night’s show.

"And I would just have to pick up the phone and call my friends,” Kimmel said. “And that's not how you go into a show."
